A TEENAGE amateur golfer from Brocket Hall Golf Club has sensationally qualified for the Ricoh Women’s British Open which starts on Thursday.

England amateur international Gabriella Cowley, aged 17, booked her place at the Open, to be held at St Andrews, by firing a stunning four-under-par round of 68 in the final qualifying event at Kingsbarns Golf Links on Monday.

Cowley was one of 104 players who battled it out for the 16 remaining places in this year’s field.

The teenager is no stranger to success having won the 2013 Critchley Salver, she was also third in the English Amateur Championship and was in England’s winning teams at the 2012 girls’ and ladies’ Home Internationals.

Welwyn Garden City’s Hannah Burke also took part in qualifying, however her fine round of two-under-par 70 was not quite enough to reach the main event.

The 2013 Ricoh Women’s British Open starts over the Old Course, St Andrews, on Thursday.
