Former England international Teddy Sheringham could play for Stevenage FC against Welwyn Garden City in the Herts Senior Cup tomorrow (Wednesday) night.

Sheringham has registered himself as a player at the age of 49, Stevenage FC have confirmed.

The Boro manager, along with assistant Kevin Watson, has registered himself ahead of the cup tie at Herns Lane.

The ex-England, Spurs and Manchester United striker retired from the game in 2008, and this summer was appointed as Stevenage’s new manager to replace Graham Westley. since his retirement as a professional player, he has continued to play for Spurs Legends.

Boro are expected to field a mixture of youth and first-team players at Herns Lane on Wednesday.

They have a number of injuries in their first-team squad while the youth team played on Monday evening in the FA Youth Cup at Aveley, a game which Sheringham attended.

A club spokesman said: “Stevenage FC can confirm that manager Teddy Sheringham and assistant manager Kevin Watson have both been registered as players ahead of Wednesday’s Herts Senior Cup tie at Welwyn Garden City.

“This is not an uncommon occurrence at the club with members of previous management teams playing in this cup competition.”
