There's a new manager, a new team and new ideas at Stotfold but the goal remains the same at New Roker Park - get promotion.

The Eagles have plumped for Brett Donnelly, the former Hitchin striker whose previous management experience came while assistant to Lee Allinson at Biggleswade Town.

He admitted that he has always had a desire to be the number one of a team but while off the pitch the club is moving in the right direction, he knows it is up to him to make sure those dreams are matched by the side on the pitch.

He said: "The club and people here are lovely and everything is going in the right direction and hopefully we can put a team together that will take them where they want to go.

"Everything is geared up to go forward. We’ve put the new ground to bed but we want to make it hard for other teams to come here.

"It is a nice play to play and everyone says that this isn’t a step-six set-up. And it isn’t, but we are a step-six side and we’ll have to block all that out and win ugly at times.

"If we can be stingy for a few months and win 1-0 or 2-1 then it will breed confidence and then we can start to look like more of an attacking threat."

His first act has been to pull a squad together, and getting them gelled together will always be something that takes a little bit of time.

He said: "We’re trying to put basic ideas across to them at the moment, to do what we ask and they will be alright.

"I’ve been in good sides where we haven’t got great players but we do things right and I’ve been in sides that have got great players but we didn’t do things right and we weren’t a good side.

"As soon as the lads get hold of that, we’ll be fine, but they cannot keep doing what they’re doing.

"Having 16 new players to bed in is tough and I don’t know the level well enough yet where I can go and see if a certain player is available.

"The players I know all play at step three and four so it is tough.

"We’ve managed to get a couple in and there’s a couple of others we are speaking to who may want to come down.

"We’ve a new manager and a new team with new ideas and have had a proper tough pre-season.

"There won’t be many teams at our level who have played the teams we have.

"But it pulls our levels up and hopefully when we get to the season, we’ll have a bit more time on the ball and we’ll be one of the better sides and play how we want to play.

"Some of the young lads have a lot to learn but we have got more than enough to do well and hopefully promotion is on the cards."
