ATHENS Olympian Tom Stallard has been selected to compete for Great Britain at this weekend's second World Cup in Lucerne.

The Welwyn rower is in the men's eight after winning a silver medal in the same boat in Munich earlier this month.

Lucerne is the second of three major international events in the build-up to the Beijing Olympics.

The GB Rowing squad for the Beijing Games will be announced on June 26 and four-time Cambridge Blue Stallard must be in contention for a second successive Olympics.

A former world champion in the coxed fours, Stallard represented GB in the 2004 Olympics in the men's eight that finished ninth.

The British rowing squad is looking this weekend to match its excellent performance at the first World Cup in Munich, where they topped the medal table and brought home a total of eight medals - five of them gold.
