CHRIS Stainsby was the difference between the two sides as WGC 2nds beat Preston on Saturday.

Stainsby claimed eight wickets as the Digswell Park club recorded only their second win of the season in Division Two of the Saracens Herts Cricket League.

On a damp afternoon but on a covered and dryish pitch, Preston won the toss and inserted WGC.

Chris Molyneux was run out first ball of the match, which set the tone for the rest of the game.

Only Andrew Nolan (27), Paul Woolley (36) and number 11 Aaron Schier (19 not out) got into double figures as WGC collapsed to 135 all out in 45 overs.

Indika Samaraweera taking 5-50 stood out in particular for the visitors.

It was all about WGC after tea.

Skipper Stainsby bowled unchanged to secure victory after taking 8-47 from his 16 overs.

He was ably assisted by Schier (2-31) and Ed Tucker, who bowled a tight six-over spell for 15.

It was a much-needed win for the WGC side who travel to local rivals Knebworth next Saturday looking formidable with ball, if not the bat.
