Welwyn Garden City squash star Alison Waters is through to the second round of the delayed 2013 World Championships in Penang, Malaysia, after knocking out India’s world number 19 Joshna Chinappa 3-1 earlier today (Tuesday).

Waters, ranked number four in the world, won her opening match of the tournament 11-7, 11-7, 9-11, 11-2 to set up a second round clash with Egypt’s Nour El Sherbini on Thursday.

In between the two matches the British ladies’ champion will celebrate her 30th birthday tomorrow (Wednesday).

No World Championships took place last year due to a lack of sponsorship, instead two are to be played this year.
