Sprinter Jodie Williams cements Euro place

JODIE Williams qualified for the European U23 Championships 2013 by winning the 100m and 200m at the England Athletics U20 and U23 Championships and European Trials in Bedford over the weekend.

The Welwyn Garden City sprinter clocked a wind-assisted (+3.5) 11.23secs to take the 100m top spot on Saturday and followed that up on Sunday by running 23.21secs to win the 200m.

Following her 100m success, the 19-year-old Herts Phoenix star who struggled with a hamstring injury in 2012, Tweeted: “Can’t even explain how happy I am! Finally feel like myself again. We’ll just ignore the wind reading!!!”

And after her 200m triumph, she Tweeted: “Happy days, considering it was a straight final, can’t complain with a seasons best! Job done! Next stop Euros!”

The 2013 European Athletics U23 Championships take place in Tampere, Finland from July 11-14.
