COUNTY spinner Ben Frazer helped WGC's 2nd XI brush aside Northchurch in their league opener on Saturday.

Frazer took three wickets for just nine runs as WGC got their Saracens Herts League Division Two campaign off to a confident start with a five-wicket victory.

Northchurch won the toss on Saturday and elected to bat first.

Eighteen overs of Paul Woolley and Ed Tucker reduced them to 40-4. Woolley took 3-14 from his nine overs.

The introduction of Frazer and Chris Stainsby set the visitors back further and after 30 overs Northchurch were reeling at 81-9.

Frazer's figures of 3-9 from six overs were extremely efficient.

Simon Bridgewater took the final wicket to fall with his fourth delivery to leave WGC needing 83 to win.

Chasing such a small total should have been easy for WGC, but they lost Molyneux and Dan Beynon cheaply.

And after a breezy 16, they were soon joined in the pavilion by Tucker.

Andy Nolan added 17 runs before he too was out and it was left to Matt Hill and Frazer to see WGC to 83-5 and 30 Herts League points.

WGC face a trip to Bedfordshire this Saturday to take on Flitwick, who lost their opening match last weekend to Chorleywood.
