Welwyn Garden City’s men returned to action after a week off due to the adverse weather but ended up going down to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Berkhamsted.

The game at the Hertfordshire Sports Village pitted two of the East League Division Three South West form teams together in an anticipated encounter.

And it duly delivered in entertainment, if not goals.

Bryn Evans was denied when through one on one with the keeper and the hosts were indebted to Neil Kirby for clearing one off the line after Dan Klinger was beaten by a quick break.

The visitors did score before half-time though as a short corner was deflected high into the net from close range.

Berkhamsted than sat back, handing possession and chances to Welwyn who were unable to convert any of them.

The same pattern followed in the second half but even with a numerical advantage, brought about due to cards for Berkhamsted, WGC couldn’t find a way through.
