Hatfield snooker star Alfie Burden has put on the best performance of his career in a ranking event to reach the last eight of the China Open in Beijing.

The 39-year-old’s previous best was making the last 16 on three occasions, however he has defeated Joe Perry (5-0), Rhys Clark (5-4) and Rory McLeod (5-1) to make the later stages in China.

Burden, who has made breaks of 116 and 117 in the tournament, will face Scotland’s Stephen Maguire in the quarter-finals.

Also into the last eight so far are world champion Stuart Bingham and Mark King.
