A MEMBER of Potters Bar badminton club Gazelles triumphed in the Herts Under-13 girls' B singles competition.

Hannah Last netted the trophy at Stevenage Leisure Centre after an all Dame Alice Owen's School final against Shayna Godin.

Only 10 girls played in the event and they were split into one group of four and two of three players.

Both eventual finalists from Potters Bar won their respective groups, as did Summer Winkworth.

Winkworth beat another Dame Alice Owen's girl, Katie Rowlands, in the quarter-final of the main draw and then fell to Last in the semis.

In the bottom half, Chancellor's School pupil and Swifts club member Lucy Wheeler defeated Ellen Eales, from Owen's, before losing to Godin 21-13 in the last four.

Shayna played well in the final, but Hannah proved too strong and went on to claim the trophy.
