A MAGNIFICENT bowling display by captain Chris Stainsby set up a valuable victory for WGC 2nds against Northwood Town on Saturday.

Skipper Stainsby took seven wickets as the Digswell Park side skittled their Saracens Herts League opponents for 116 runs.

WGC then coasted to maximum Division Two points with just two wickets down.

The victory banished all fears of relegation after a difficult campaign.

WGC have now claimed three wins and two draws from their last five matches and will end up in a comfortable league position.

Stainsby was the main architect of his side's latest win.

His 21 overs brought him the reward of 7-42 as batsmen seemed to alternatively block his deliveries or slog them in the air straight to welcoming catchers in the field.

Needing only 117 to win, the WGC batsmen eased home with little difficulty.

Dan Beynon and Matt Hill added 50 for the first wicket before the latter was dismissed for 16.

Beynon went for 40 before Ray Hodge and Andy Nolan claimed the 30 points. Hodge remained unbeaten on 35 as WGC reached a winning 118-2 in 37 overs, while Nolan was 18 not out at the other end at the finish.
