A schoolgirl from Welwyn Garden City has scooped a silver medal along with her Great Britain team-mates at an international show jumping tournament.

Isabella Litchfield was competing in the Nations Cup in Fontainebleu, France and the 12-year-old, who goes to Stanborough School surpassed her own expectations.

She has grown up with horses but hadn’t ridden competitively until four years ago. But in the last year she attended trials for children aged between 12 and 14 and was selected for the tournament.

The cup was held over 1.25 metres obstacles in the first round with the top six nations going through to a bigger course in the next stage.

And after qualifying third, the four GB riders all jumped clear, good enough to lift them level with the Netherlands and just behind winners from Germany.

Hosts France just missed out on the podium in fourth.
