SHERRARDSWOOD Ladies secured a 2-1 victory against Sandy under their new manager Gary Edwards.

After a slow start to the game from both teams, the passing from Sherrardswood began to open up the Sandy defence.

While attempting to break through, some good counter-attacking football from Sandy led to their first chance of the game which they managed to slot into the top corner leaving the keeper helpless.

Sandy kept up the pressure for the next 10 to 15 minutes and created some chances which were ably kept out by debutant keeper Sophie Dickinson.

Edwards' side stepped up their game towards the end of the half and grabbed a fine equaliser from Jules Comerford.

Sherrardswood up their game in the second half and created chance after chance which they were very unlucky not to profit from.

Just when it looked like Sandy were going to hold on to a draw, Kristie Donovan scored a cracking goal from 20 yards.

With only seconds to go, Sandy broke through on goal, only to be stopped by a last-ditch tackle from Abby Cardall.

The whistle followed to secure the side's second victory of the season.

The woman of the match was awarded to Katie Jones for a superb all-round performance.
