THERE were plenty of Herts Phoenix athletes from outside Times Territory who competed at the Herts Schools' Championships.
These included distance runner Edward Shepherd, who finished ahead of club colleague Vasudev Zaver in the U15 boys' 1,500m.
The winning time was 4 minutes 33.1 seconds, with Zaver clocking 4 mins 37.5 secs for the runners-up spot.
Away from the track, Melissa Hadley put on a great display to set a championship best performance with 9.38m to win the U13 girls' shot putt.
Nina Edwards came first in the U17 300m flat, beating club colleagues Deborah Willis, Steph Sattin and Emily Hatch into third, fourth and fifth places respectively.
Jenny Hutchings claimed an excellent second place with 1.59m in the U17 high jump, despite having missed several weeks of the season with an ankle injury.
Nick McNaught made a welcome return from injury in the U17 800m.
He ran well in his first 800m of the year, despite having missed the first half of the season due to a foot injury to come fifth in 2 mins 07.2 secs.
Those athletes who won their events at the Woodside Stadium with national or entry standard performances are likely to be selected to represent Hertfordshire at the English Schools' Championships to be held in Gateshead on July 11-12.
