HERTS golfer Tom Shadbolt has been selected for one of England's national squads. Shadbolt is one of six players not previously included in any English team who have been selected for this year's English Under-21 squad.

The squad has already undergone a training session at the National Golf Centre at Woodhall Spa and will be looking forward to travelling to Spain in March for warmweather training.

Mid Herts member Shadbolt, 19, came under the selectors' scrutiny last season with some impressive performances in national events, as well as county matches.

Shadbolt finished runner-up in the Lagonda Trophy, was fourth in the Lee Westwood

Trophy, ninth in the Berkshire Trophy and reached the last 16 in the English Amateur Championship.

Tom became one of the youngest players at 17 to win the Herts Championship in 2005. He beat Porters Park's Nick Pateman, 19, on the final green at Letchworth by one hole.

When the pair won through to the final again the following year at Moor Park, it was Nick's turn, winning by 4&3.
