ROBERT Mear is to return to speedway action in Hertfordshire for the Rye House Silver SKi Rockets.
Hatfield’s Mear will join the Hoddesdon-based team on a temporary loan deal from Elite League Lakeside as cover for injury-victim Jason Garrity.
The WGC-born star spent 2008 and 2009 with the Rockets, reaching the World U21 semi-finals in his second year, but being denied his place in the final 32 through injury.
He was absent from the sport in 2010 before joining the Hammers in the top flight.
A keen all-round motorcyclist, Mear is currently recovering from a motocross accident, but is set to make his Rockets return in Sunday’s home League Cup fixture against Plymouth.
Team manager John Sampford said: “It is good to have a local rider on board who knows the track and can now bring Elite League experience with him in his second spell with the club.”
