GARDEN City Runners completed a county treble at this year's Herts Cross-Country Championships.

The Welwyn club's men ran off with the team title at Haileybury College and so did the women.

To round off a successful day, GCR member Kevin Skinner also won the men's race at the Hertford Heath venue.

Skinner had a running battle with Dave Mitchinson around the 11km course.

Normally clubmates at Newham & Essex Beagles, Skinner took the honours for this second claim club, three seconds ahead of Mitchinson in 37 minutes 12 seconds.

It was the first time he had beaten Mitchinson in a race. GCR's triumphant men's team was completed by Matt Robins, Mark Dickinson, Simon Mace, Laurence Pidcock and Steve Livingstone.

Having three women in the first five and all four scoring team members in the top 10 helped the ladies to success.

Kath Philp, Mandy Livingstone and Jenny Gray finished third, fourth and fifth respectively around the scenic grounds of Haileybury, with Abi Brockhurst completing the gold winning squad in ninth.
