DATCHWORTH'S North Herts League fixture against Breachwood Green on Sunday was a run-fest as over 500 runs were scored in 80 overs.

The village side elected to bat first, and Allan Carolan (55) and Stuart Warrington (37) promptly set about the bowling of Jeffries and Arafat before Warrington was caught in the deep.

At this stage Datchworth were already on 117 from 17 overs, with plenty of batting to come.

Nick Merchant (2-30) tried to stem the tide, accounting for both Warrington and Luke Bennett.

Tom Bennett also fell for cheaply but Lee Pybus, making a return to the club, bided his time at number four for an assault in the final overs.

The score was also lifted by lusty blows, including two massive sixes from Tom Short (23).

At 188-5, Pybus (61) and Will Nash (33 no) put on 85 in quick time to post a score of 276-6 from the 40 overs.

Always a tough task, the run chase was steady at first and the openers, Merchant (69) and Hall (27), only slightly fell behind the run rate.

Merv Croucher again bowled tightly given the circumstances, taking 1-33 from his eight overs.

Wickets fell to Tom Bennett (3-31) and George Wallace (2-25) but the lower order of Jeffries (34), Arafat (34) and Aftab (35 not out) took the score to 254 from the 40 overs as Datchworth chased the bowling bonus point.
