LEAGUE leaders Saracens Colts beat their Welwyn RFC counterparts 22-6 in the Herts Middlesex League.

The visitors ended Welwyn's ambitions of winning the title by running out as winners of the match by 16 points.

The hosts dominated possession and territory for the majority of the first half, but the Hobbs Way teenagers squandered some good try-scoring opportunities.

Their only reward was a penalty goal kicked by James Maton.

However, within minutes of taking the lead the Sarries forwards replied with a try in the corner, leaving the home side trailing 5-3 at the break.

Within minutes of the start of the second half, a Saracens winger broke clear from his own half and forced a try, leaving their opponents 10-3 down.

Welwyn fought back and created a number of scoring situations, including centre Dominic Wright being held up over the try-line.

Their only reward was a penalty from Ali Morgan to reduce the deficit.

However, the away side's backline had other ideas and with the help of poor Welwyn tackling scored further tries for a bonus win at 22-6.

Welwyn travel to Hertford in their last league game of the season.

A win could see them finish runners-up in the league.
