Archant

Welwyn Ladies produced a much better performance against Royston in Women's National Conference South-East East Three but couldn't stop the league leaders leaving with a 31-21 win.

The Hobbs Way-based rugby club’s ladies had lost 49-0 in December at Royston but this was a much better performance.

Royston took to the pitch and pushed Welwyn back for the opening part of the half but with both packs incredibly strong, fatigue became a factor.

And Welwyn came back well, capitalising on mistakes from the visitors with good attacking play.

And it was only late on when Royston edged clear, centre Jaz Devereux added a well-earned final conversion to close out the game and the win.

The result means Welwyn lie sixth in the table.

And they will hope to take the positives out of it when they host the unbeaten Towcester Roses on Sunday.
