WELWYN Rugby Club's A team are the Herts Under-8s Tag County Cup champions.
After winning their group, the side continued past the semi-final and all the way to the final where they defeated Old Albanians.
Welwyn breezed past Radlett club Tabard in their opening pool match with a comfortable 5-1 win.
Isaac Odeniyi showed his opponents a clean pair of heels on more than one occasion and ran in a brace of tries.
Keir Lloyd also opened his account and Jack Briars completed the scoring.
The team knew that things would get more difficult as the day progressed, and this was certainly the case against an improving Fullerians side.
A steady performance ensured Welwyn grabbed the spoils in a 6-4 victory.
Alfie Orchard got two tries, Guy Morgan and Kyle Tormey scored their opening points of the competition, alongside further scores from Lloyd and Briars.
Game three was effectively the group decider as opponents Royston had been very impressive in winning their opening two games.
The Welwyn boys ran out 6-4 winners with six different players on the scoresheet.
Cameron Boon, Joey Harrison and Nathan Gammon scored their first tries of the day and Lloyd, Orchard and Odeniyi kept the official scorers busy.
In the semi-final and against what was a very good Hertford side, Welwyn played them off the park.
The boys certainly stepped up their tagging and despite letting in a late try or two, they ran out 7-3 winners.
Lloyd was at his imperious best as he scored a fantastic hat-trick and Orchard, Harrison, Gammon and Morgan showed their opponents a sidestep or two.
Welwyn's Lloyd raced away to put his team one try to the good early on in the final against Old Albanians.
OA's hit back with two of their own but Boon equalised soon after.
At half-time Welwyn got the ball to start the second half and immediately rammed home their advantage.
They got the seventh tag turnovers on three occasions to frustrate their opponents.
Gammon and Orchard were proving to be a real thorn in the Albanians side and a brace of tries from Kyle Tormey pushed Welwyn in front.
Gammon and another fantastic solo effort from Lloyd ensured Welwyn ran out 6-4 winners.
It was therefore captain Jack Briars who received the trophy from Saracens stars Brent Russell and Francisco Leonelli and Welwyn were crowned the undisputed kings of Hertfordshire tag rugby.
