Welwyn U15 girls won the Herts 10s tournament

Welwyn U15 girls won their first major tournament of the 2014-2015 season on Sunday.

With six new players in the squad, this was the first test of how well the team had integrated.

The Herts 10s tournament was held at Old Merchant Taylors School, Northwood and attracted teams from Hertfordshire, Berkshire, London, Worcestershire and Oxfordshire.

In their pool games Welwyn beat Basingstoke 24-5 with tries from Mollie Reynolds, Annabel Ross, Cara Wardle and Helena Rowland, who also converted two of the tries.

They then saw off Hitchin 40-0 with tries from Daisy-Mae Parker, Reynolds, Wardle and Rowland who added to her points tally with five successful conversions.

Finishing top of their pool, Welwyn won the final 7-5 with Rowland scoring and converting against Worcester.

The two finalists had shared the trophy last year when bad weather had stopped the tournament before the final could be played.
