Welwyn U18 girls won their first match of the season 53-10 against old foes Herts Baa Baas at Harlow Rugby Club on Sunday.

From the start the game was intense and, despite early season handling errors on both sides, it maintained a high tempo.

Herts went ahead with a well worked move from a penalty.

Welwyn replied when Daisy Parker went over in the corner.

Just before half-time Cara Wardle went over twice, the second time following a fine kick-off return by debutant Megan Johnston, giving Welwyn a 17-5 lead.

Herts hit back to make the half-time score 17-10.

In the second half Welwyn’s pressure and fitness began to tell.

Wardle added three tries, Helena Rowland scored two and kicked four conversions, while Chloe Walker got her first U18 try.

Welwyn U18s play their first National Girls Cup game this weekend at home.
