St Albans’ Nick Isiekwe has been drafted into the England squad preparing for the visit of France in round two of the Guinness Six Nations.

The former Nicholas Breakspear pupil is needed as cover following a knee injury to Saracens team-mate Maro Itoje, picked up in the impressive victory over Ireland on Saturday.

Isiekwe forms part of a 35-man squad ahead of Sunday’s contest at Twickenham with Harpenden’s Jack Singleton and former Harpenden St George’s pupils Owen Farrell and George Ford also included.

The 23 that will take to the turf at rugby HQ will be announced on Friday.

Itoje’s injury, a partial tear to the medial ligament, is expected to keep out for a few weeks but the hope is he will be able to return for the final matches in March.
