Datchworth minis enjoyed a great morning of rugby on Sunday at Welwyn Rugby Club were the hosts, Datchworth and Barnet contested the annual John Gray memorial cup.
The sun was shining and the three clubs had teams at every age group playing throughout the morning Datchworth came out on top in the U7s, U8s (pictured below) and U12s. Barnet won the three other age groups and picked up the overall trophy having scored the most tries on the morning.
The Datchworth U8s had a particularly good morning. The squad was divided into two teams and had a tough encounter in the first match with Barnet A, Datchworth coming out on top 7-6.
The Datchworth team played their best rugby of the season with some direct forward running and excellent support play making the most of the opportunities they were able to create.
The second match against Welwyn was also a very close and high scoring encounter. The support play was very good with two memorable second half tries in which every Datchworth player touched the ball; holding on for a 10-9 victory.
Throughout the morning the full squad played a number of matches against Welwyn and Barnet and across the board the teams gave a very good account of themselves. The whole squad performed very well but particular praise goes to; Alick Broster, Ronan Hawes, Theo Tilley, Max Coltman, Ollie Griffin, Damian Murphy, Elliot Clifford and Thomas Howard.
