HATFIELD Comets Under-13s have reached the play-off Grand Final of the Chiltern Junior Rugby League after being crowned league champions.

Comets were 24-0 winners last weekend in their top four play-off game against Adeyfield Dragons.

This Saturday they will take on Grovehill Tigers in the grand play-off final.

Comets coach and St Albans Rugby League development officer Shane Rampling said: "I am really made up for these boys.

"The majority of them come from Onslow St Audrey's School in Hatfield, and this is their first year playing rugby league.

"At least four of the other teams in the competition have been playing league for the last few years, so for the Hatfield lads to have gone the whole season with only one loss and one draw and to have won all the rest is certainly an achievement."

The final is being held at 11am on Saturday at Hemel Hempstead Rugby League Club in Pennine Way, Hemel.

It has also been announced that the youngsters' rugby league season will be extended to give players an eight month season.

St Albans Centurions Rugby League, which runs the Comets, will enter at least two amalgamated Comets and New Green Gladiators teams into the London Junior Rugby League, which runs from March to June.
