WELWYN back Jon Child has been named in Hertfordshire's side for their opening County Championship Shield match.

Herts' campaign gets underway with a game against Eastern Counties this Saturday.

The county's opening fixture will be played at West Norfolk RFC, near King's Lynn, with a 3pm kick-off.

This is followed by two home encounters against Cornwall at Hertford's Hoe Lane ground on Saturday, May 10 and then Oxfordshire at Old Albanian on May 17.

The national County Championshsip is a three-tier competition entered by 27 of the RFU's constituent bodies.

The full Herts team for Saturday is as follows: Tom Newton (Tring), Ian Crompton (Stevenage Town), Jon Child (Welwyn), Ray Adde (Hemel Hempstead), Mark Mansfield (Old Albanian), Richard Gregg (Old Albanian), Toby Prescott (Tring), Ryan Long (Tabard), Tavita Faamausili (Stevenage Town), Jim Remfry (Caldy), Adam Amos (Stevenage Town), Rob Dumbleton (Harpenden), Ian Hardcastle (Westcombe Park), Chris Rainbow (Newbury), Dave Archer, capt (Henley Hawks).
