A FINE 71 from Dame Alice Owen's schoolboy Tom Rowlands wasn't enough to save Potters Bar 4ths from defeat against Sandridge on Saturday.

Although on the losing side, Bar put in a much-improved performance to the previous week's collapse against Monken Hadley.

Despite a majestic performance from Rowlands, the other batters failed to stay with him.

At 60-6, Potters Bar looked as though they would struggle to make 100.

However, Ian Breeze came in at number eight and with his pupil, Rowlands, managed to stabilise the innings and take the score to 155 before Rowlands was bowled going for another big shot.

Another 20 runs were added before tea, and 175 looked a promising total.

Disappointingly, a combination of some wayward bowling and poor fielding allowed Sandridge to win the game by four wickets, with eight overs to spare. They had initially struggled at 56-6.

Nick Daslakis was the pick of the Bar bowlers, taking three wickets for 37 in his 12-over spell.

Although still to register a win in Herts Division Nine, Potters Bar 4ths have a number of promising youngsters who will hopefully adapt quickly to the demands of higher division cricket.

On Saturday the Bar 4ths are playing at home against Bentley Heath CC.
