Rinks shared in Datchworth defeat

WILLIAN Bowls Club defeated hosts Datchworth in the Stevenage Mixed League despite the game ending in two rinks apiece.

The Letchworth side finished on top overall by 86 shots to 80.

The home club's two winning rinks both triumphed 20-18.

Those teams were made up of Edie Alden, Bill Thorne, Doreen Hodson-Smith and skip Steve Arnold and Dawn Kingsland, Bob Waller, John Alden and skip Peter Hills.

Their wins were not enough to make up for the total of 10 shots that the other two rinks lost by.

* Veteran bowlers from Stevenage Town visited Datchworth for a mixed friendly and returned home after a comfortable 86-66 win.

The Turkey Farm club's only winning rink was that of Jenny Thompson, Jane Waller, Clive Hodson-Smith and skip Tom Power.

They won 23-20 after picking up four shots over the last two ends.
