The talented youngster set a new British juvenile record last week over 25 miles and he clocked 19 minutes 33 seconds in coming sixth out of a field of 120 at the Eastern Counties 10-mile Championship.

That performance in Essex was almost three minutes quicker than the previous senior best.

He had warmed up for Saturday’s championship by racing at the Welwyn Track League meeting at Gosling Sports Park where he opted out of riding the final 10-mile event to save his energy.

Also at the weekend Iona Moir won the U16 girls race at the Velopark with a strong finishing sprint to take the victory.

Younger brother Calum was ninth in the U14 boys race.

And Joe Bennett was the second junior at the Verulam Cycling Club’s Road Race.
