IT was a Bank Holiday of sun and rain and a cancelled game for Welwyn & District Bowls Club.

Saturday brought bright sunshine and a Welwyn team of four men's rinks and two ladies' rinks travelled to Rosedale Bowls Club in the afternoon.

The men won on two of the four rinks and lost on the other two with an overall deficit of 82 shots to 69.

Welwyn's ladies came to the rescue with a win on both rinks and an overall score of 48 shots to 34.

The top rink for the men was Nigel Noel, Malcolm Marvell, Ken Perry and skip Bob Wells with a 25-14 victory.

Margaret Holdcroft, Olive Perry, Barbara Marvell and skip Diana Barrett were the top ladies.

Heavy rain on Sunday resulted in the cancellation of a home match against Enfield club Bush Hill Park.

This was a new fixture last year, which also had to be cancelled due to the weather.

A mixed team of five triples visited Borehamwood for a friendly match last Wednesday.

It proved a closely fought game and although Welwyn lost on three of the triples, they won overall with a score of 78 shots to 72.

Tony Young, Hazel Wing and skip Arthur Knight were the top triple with a 24-9 triumph.
