Scott Shulton's arrival at Potters Bar Town may have been delayed by a year but the lure of friends and colleagues with a similar outlook on football made his move to the LA Construction Stadium a matter of when not if.

The 31-year-old former St Albans City and Hemel Hempstead Town midfielder played with both Lee O'Leary and Scott Cousins during their time at Hendon.

"I have a lot of respect for the boys and the coaching team," said Shulton. "I’ve known them for a long, long time and to be able to play under them, I’m really looking forward to it.

"We have a great relationship and with Robert Ursell coming in as well, it’s great. I’ve played futsal with him so I know what they expect from players."

And although a coach himself, he is happy with just passing on his knowledge on the field for the time being.

He said: "If called upon I’m here to help but for the majority of time I’ll be looking to do a lot of my stuff on the pitch.

"If I can help and guide the young boys and be a coach for them on the pitch, then I will and hopefully it can help them."

Some of his new team-mates may be of a tender age but Shulton believes they are still very capable and exciting footballers.

He said: "We’ve got a really good squad and one that should go under the radar. There are no big names and everyone is in it together.

"Lee and his team have got everyone grafting and the style of play is fantastic. It will suit us.

"We have some really young boys in there who have a lot to learn but to be fair, none of them have shied away for the challenge.

"The boys have their goals set and any team in any league doesn’t try to finish mid-table.

"Everyone has to have an aim but with the way things are, you just have to take it one game at a time.

"I’ve been in enough squads that say they are going to challenge but you end up being in a dogfight.

"We’ll work on things in training and realistically we’ll just go about our business and see where we go.

"We are all confident."
