After a cold and wet start to the season, Potters Bar Bowls Club got down to business this week when the County competitions began.

In the Senior Fours Richard Pearce, Dave Salmon, Brian Tomlinson and Chris Budden had an overwhelming win against Harperbury but there was a 24-15 defeat in the Men’s County Fours at home to WGC.

A ladies team of Rita Hamshere, Janice Gower, P Feeney and S Powers won away at Harpenden while in the Triples, two Bar teams faced off, with Terry Barker, Brian Burfoot and Ron Golden just claiming a 16-13 win over Steven Jewell, Bob Maule and Colin Malone.

The club also held their second open day, which in contrast to the first was held in perfect conditions.

Many of the people from the previous week attended together with additional people wanting to try the game.

Bar are hoping that they did enough to encourage the 30 plus newcomers to return.
