In all, 40 members braved wet weather for a 15-end match, won by the President’s team.

Retiring captain Colin Malone asked for a short silence in memory of those members who had died during the season and the presented prizes to winning teams, as well as bar staff, catering staff and raffle sellers Barbara Mouland and Pam Barker.

Greenkeepers Sandra and Rod Smale were thanked for their efforts in a challenging hot summer, along with fellow captain Rita Hamshere and vice-captain Di Jewell.

President Susie Thurlow handed over a cheque for £3,039 to Chris Williamson, a trustee of Headway Hertfordshire, who provide support for people affected by acquired brain injuries.

Bar members will now play indoors at Hatfield, Watford or Cheshunt and welcome newcomers.
