DESPITE hitting 225-5, poor fielding cost WGC 3rds as they fell to a five-wicket defeat against their Hertford counterparts.

With the bat, the Welwyn side had no troubles as more than six of their players got past 20.

It was their fielding that let them down.

The wicket and outfield at Watton favoured the bat and both sides took advantage in the Saracens Herts Cricket League Division Six fixture.

For WGC, six batsmen got past 20. Terry Edwards managed 62 not out, and Leslie Meyer (42) really excelled and put on a fine display at the crease.

Edwards and James Sumpter added 64 for the sixth wicket to get the side well past 200 and looking good.

But the Hertford side got off to an equally bright start as they chased their target.

In reply, they soon posted 100 for the loss of only two wickets and looked like they could go all the way.

WGC conceded far too many byes - 28 in total - and the home side were able to get to their target with two overs to spare.

Hertford took 30 points from the Herts League derby, with WGC claiming 15 bonus points to add to their season's tally.
