A POOR batting performance ultimately cost WGC's 2nd XI as they lost by five wickets to Flitwick on Saturday.

On a damp Flitwick wicket, the visitors struggled with the bat in the Saracens Herts Cricket League Division Two encounter.

A reasonable opening stand of 35 between Dan Beynon and Chris Molyneux occupied 12 overs.

Matt Hill and Andy Nolan then put on a slow 30 in 13 overs.

Paul Woolley, batting down at number nine, was top scorer with 21 for the away team.

WGC could not break free on a wicket where perhaps they should have elected to bowl first.

They finished their innings on 135 all out in 51.5 overs.

In contrast, the Flitwick openers put on a real show.

The pair added nearly 70 runs in 20 overs.

Although bowlers Chris Stainsby and Simon Bridgewater took a couple of wickets each, the home side reached their target with seven overs to spare, to win by five wickets.

Flitwick secured 30 points for their home victory, with WGC taking five points back with them to Digswell Park.
