POTTERS Bar Bowls club had a tough time of it in the first round at the National Top Club competition played at Welwyn & District BC.

Potters secured their only win on the singles rink with Richard Pearce triumphant by 21-18 shots.

On the other singles rink Edgar Vaughan lost out by 19 shots to eight.

In the pairs, Barry Bowman and Roy Tansey were defeated 21-16.

The triples rink of Derek Goodwin, Martin Wood and Ken Huntley were beaten by 10 shots to two.

Finally the fours of Bill Massey, Brian Hamshere, Keith Aides and Terry Barker went down 27-14.

Potters Bar men travelled to Bengeo BC for a four rink friendly and narrowly lost the match by 77 shots to 75.

The best showing was by Jan Southwell, David Salmon, Melville Pereira and Steve Anchor who won through 25-8.

Eric Marriner, William Burrows, Mike Osborn and Charles Oates also played well to win 20-17.

Brian Bell, Robert Cribb, George Edwards and Terry White lost out by 29 shots to 13 and Arthur Harris, Alan Parkinson, Jack Penn and Harry White slipped to a 23-17 loss.
