THE Park's 4th XI went down in a dour contest against Shenley Village 2nds in Herts Division Eight.

Chris Dance grafted hard for 38 but apart from skipper Bret Painter's 20, the rest of the order failed to dig in.

As a result, Knebworth were bowled out for a miserly 98 on a slow batting surface where the bowlers dominated.

At 28-4, the visitors were struggling with Bill Martin taking 2-22 and a deceptive piece of fielding by Mark Woods enabling a run out.

Shenley recovered though, until leg spinner Ed Emsley's belated introduction into the attack bagged 2-15.

The visitors still got home on 99-6 with one player having retired hurt with a back injury.
