HAVE you ever thought about playing bowls? Well now could be your chance.

North Mymms Bowls Club are holding open days next month for new and aspiring bowlers to find out more about the sport.

On Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3 the Welham Green club will be opening their doors.

Members will be on hand to explain exactly what is involved and introductory sessions and coaching will also be available.

Just turn up anytime between 10am and 4pm on either day at the green in Bushwood Close, Dellsome Lane, Welham Green.

All that is needed is a pair of flat shoes or trainers - all other equipment will be provided on the day.

Ladies and gents of all ages are welcome.

The club already has several teenage members, so young people will be given every encouragement to also join in.

Come and have a go at this really enjoyable pastime and see what you think.

During the outdoor close season the men contested three fixtures against Hatfield Indoor Bowls Club.

Two friendly games were lost but the annual Model Cup match was won with a clean sweep on all rinks.

The club's annual presentation lunch was attended by more than 80 members and friends.

It was again held at the Homestead Court Hotel.

Top awards went to Diann Howell, who took the Ladies' Singles championship for the second year running.

Martin Barson claimed both the Men's Singles title and the Men's Handicap trophy.

The new season starts with practice sessions on the weekend of April 18-19.

This will be followed a week later with the customary opening fixtures against the Rosedale and Radlett club.

This year the North Mymms Bowls Club will be captained by the husband and wife duo of Joyce and Martin Barson in a full programme of midweek and weekend friendly matches and County and District cup and league fixtures.

The various club competitions get under way in May.

Social bowls will be catered for with the weekly spoon drives and Thursday club night.
