Old Owens roared to the top of the SHCL Division One table with a comprehensive 170-run victory over Harpenden 2nds.

The Potters Bar hosts were in scintillating form and their opening partnership set the scene for the success.

It will have been galling to watch for Harpenden who had won the toss and elected to field first.

But from there Chris Whitworth and Rhys Carter made them suffer putting on 160 for the first wicket.

Whitworth was the first to go having made 65 but Carter kept going, eventually scoring a glorious 143.

He was the final wicket to go as Owens finished on 317-8.

The reply never got going for Harpenden who had lost six wickets before the 100 came up.

Only opener Barney Francis (54) and Nick Winchester and William Lange-Hewlett made any impression as Owens, and Jack Bloxham in particular, ripped through the visiting line-up.

Bloxham eventually finished on 5-49 as Harpenden were all out in the 38th over.
