The north Herts visitors had failed to win prior to the game on a baking-hot Home Farm pitch and they were up against a Mymms side full of confidence.

But even after Nesan Jeyaratnam hit a magnificent 102 in the hosts’ 284-6, Letchworth were able to chase it down with less than two overs to go.

Jeyaratnam’s century was a big part of that although the 91-run partnership with Steve Snell (50) for the third wicket and 123 shared with Andy Lewis (67) for the fifth certainly helped.

But then a whirlwind 74 from the in-form Maxford Pipe set up a great run chase with major contributions from Tim Graham (64), Matt Bridge (51), skipper Tom Simmons (40) and Harry Aitkenhead (32) taking them to a two-wicket win with 10 balls to spare.

That was despite the best efforts of Dharmarajsinh Jhala who bagged 5-73 with the ball for Mymms.

There was no luck either for the Home Farm second string who lost by six wickets at Lutonian in Division Four A.

They had won the toss and elected to bat, making 188 with 41 from Jon Mather the top score.

Mohammed Nafees took two wickets but the hosts comfortably got to their target with more than 14 overs in hand.
