NORTH Mymms' men lost their final County League match at home to Welwyn & District by 38 shots to 31.

Dave Cooper, Brian O'Neill, Cliff Saunders and Barry Paine looked set for a win but lost 20-19 on the final end.

Meanwhile, John Penfold, Martin Barson, Bob Fowler and Peter Stokes went down 18-12.

Due to entertain Batchwood Hall on successive days, the ladies' game fell foul of the weather but the men were able to play the following day.

An enjoyable close contest saw Mymms win on two of the four rinks and narrowly take the match 84-82.

The top rink of Alan Barth, Alf Valentine, Geoff Matthews and Peter Stokes won 30-14.

John Penfold, Cliff Saunders, Ray Jones and Barry Paine also gained a 26-21 victory.

The weekend featured the annual tripartite competitions between North Mymms, Potters Bar and Northaw & Cuffley.

The Harvey Cup for the ladies played at Northaw was won by the host club.

Mymms claimed victory on only one of their four rinks with Sue Maynard, Ann Penfold, Pam Jones and Gwen Townhill defeating Potters Bar 20-18.

The men's Jarvis Cup at Potters Bar BC saw the host club again the victors with a clean sweep on all four rinks.

The Welham Greeners finished in second place by virtue of victories on two rinks against Northaw & Cuffley opponents.

Jim Greenwood, Bill Baker, Ray Jones and Adrian Sherlock won 21-17 and Dave Cooper, George Austin, Bob Fowler and Barry Paine triumphed 20-18.
