THERE'S no rest for Rocket man Rob Mear this coming week.

If you think you've got a busy week ahead, spare a thought for Rye House speedway star Mear.

The Hatfield teenager, who has been one of the shining lights in a disappointing campaign for the Hertfordshire side, couldn't believe his ears when team boss John Sampford ran over the week's schedule with him.

The 19-year-old former Onslow St Audrey's School pupil starts in Birmingham with the Rockets on Wednesday night.

Then it is off to Swindon on Thursday to represent Great Britain U23s against Australia.

Friday finds Rob in Scunthorpe again with the Rockets and he then returns home for a double header with Mildenhall and Somerset at Rye House on Saturday.

There's no rest on Sunday as Mear has to make the trip to Newcastle for a league fixture before enjoying a well earned rest on Monday.

That, though, will only provide a brief moment to catch his breath before taking the ferry to the Isle of Wight with his Rockets team-mates next Tuesday night.

All in all, that's a total of six meetings in six days and nearly 1,500 miles on the road.
