WELWYN Warriors secured the SEMLA East Division One title on Saturday with a solid 14-0 win over Hitchin A at Ottway Walk.

With two games to go, Welwyn are now 10 points clear of Oxford University at the top and it is now mathematically impossible for any team to catch them.

Warriors got off to a flying start in the first quarter against their county rivals and despite being without the club's two leading goalscorers, they took a comfortable 6-0 lead.

This was to prove the best passage of play for Welwyn, as although goals game at regular intervals, a disciplined and experienced Hitchin defence made life difficult for the home side.

The score had edged to 8-0 by half-time. The second half saw a similar pattern, with Welwyn having possession for long periods of play, but struggling to break down a resolute Hitchin defence.

The Welwyn defence shut down any Hitchin attacks early and the only shot on target from the visitors didn't arrive until late in the last quarter.

Kyle Witt led the Welwyn scoring charts with four goals.

Henry Farrell netted a hat-trick and Aaron Demant claimed a brace.

One each from Hamish Tiley, Jimbo Hingston, Gareth Bates, Lester Salmons and Stuart Grove completed the rout.
