WGC 2nds slipped into the relegation places in Herts Division Two following an uninspiring defeat away to Northwood on Saturday.

The Digswell Park club have now lost four of their opening five Saracens Herts League fixtures as Chris Molyneux's men continue to struggle on the field of play.

The wicket at Northwood, with a soft surface and too much grass, was perfect for seam bowling but WGC were unable to exploit it.

Luke Kemp will want to forget the opening deliveries of the day as a bizarre first over went for 25.

After conceding so many runs in the very first over, the WGC bowlers restricted Northwood to 30-3 in the next six overs.

Although Aaron Schier and Chris Stainsby kept the visitors in contention, the damage had already been done.

The home batters consolidated after the early loss of wickets, and some late slogging from the tail-enders lifted the home side past 200.

Stainsby was the pick of the WGC attack, finishing with figures of 4-63.

WGC lost skipper Molyneux almost immediately for a duck in reply.

Then Dan Beynon and Andy Nolan batted as though victory was a formality with a 20-over stand of 75.

But Ranjit Latchman - from the famous Middlesex spinning family - was gaining control and in no time at all the innings was destroyed.

Beynon went four short of his half century, Nolan for 32 and Stainsby came and went for 24.

The last five batsmen added only three runs between them as WGC slumped to a 79-run defeat and dropped into the relegation places as a result.
