THERE were mixed fortunes for two Datchworth Bowls Club teams last Friday night in their Welwyn Hatfield Bowls League matches at Turkey Farm.

Welwyn Garden City A beat Datchworth Blue 37-29 in a Division One match, while the village club's Gold team defeated Hertford Jesters 36-25 in a Division Two fixture.

The Datchworth triple of Doreen Hodson-Smith, June Russell and skip Mike Mahoney only lost the end count 11-7 in the first match.

However, dropping three fours and a five saw them lose by more than twice their opponents' score at 25-12.

The second triple of Clive Hodson-Smith, Jim Russell and skip Steve Arnold managed to edge out winners of a tight game 17-12.

For the Gold team, both triples came out on top to take all the points in a 36-25 win. The triple of Jim Whittle, Phill Fox and skip Joan James won 20-14.

Jane Waller, Ros Wintle and skip David Wright shared the ends nine apiece but still won 16-11 on shots.
