Mixed fortunes for Welwyn Garden City teams

THERE were mixed fortunes for WGC bowlers in the Welwyn Hatfield League last week.

WGC B beat Datchworth Blues by four points to two on the Monday.

David Hegarty, Gordon Tamcken and Doug King won 21-13.

Maureen Foulser, Roy Kingham and Keith Price lost 17-13, but that still gave WGC B an overall winning score of 34 shots to 30.

WGC B lost 4-2 to Avdel-17 last Thursday. Tom Stevenson, Brian Hewitt and Keith Price won 17-15 but Barbara Hegarty, David Hegarty and Doug King lost 18 shots to 11.

Meanwhile, WGC A lost to Datchworth by 41 shots to 36 in the John Brown Cup.

Shire Park's bowlers just edged out WGC in the semi-finals of the St Albans and District Two Wood Triples after a close match.

An extra end was required to decide the match with WGC's Alan Cox, Allan Budge and Reg Collins losing to P Castle, W Webb and G Price by 21 shots to 20.

WGC lost to Harpenden by a margin of six shots in the St Albans and District Ladies Fours.

Brenda Collins, Norma Cox, Ruth Brett and Ruby Avery won by two shots, but Rita Wilsmore, Maureen Foulser, Vera Joyce and Jean Flay lost by eight.
