HERTS tennis players had further cause for celebration as they were named overall winners of the Regional 9 and Under Mini Tennis Orange event at Gosling.

This was a one-day competition held on May Bank Holiday Monday at the Gosling Sports Park in WGC and eight counties took part in boys' and girls' sections respectively.

Herts were runners-up in the boys' event and won the girls' section.

And as they secured more victories in total, the hosts were also declared the winners overall, pushing county rivals Essex into the runners-up position.

The competition was organised by the regional talent co-ordinators as an exercise to see the current top players in each county in a competitive environment.

And it is clear the future is bright for the county's young tennis players.

Herts' coaches were delighted with their efforts, describing the event as a "great environment in which to test their competitive skills".

Representing the boys were Josh Rose, Fin Bass, Joe Farry and David Stevenson, while Rosie Carr, Daniel Latter, Elizabeth Whelan and Darcy Gibbard made up the Herts girls' squad.
