WGC 3rds 242-6 Boxmoor 85-10

LESLIE Meyer fell an agonising seven runs short of his century as WGC 3rds thrashed Boxmoor in Division Six of the Herts Cricket League.

Batting first at Welwyn, Leslie Meyer with his 93 knock and Dan Byford with 36 added 66 for the opening wicket.

Meyer and Stuart Primarolo (45) added another 75 runs to ensure a good haul of batting points.

Terry Edwards with 27 helped Meyer to what would have been a deserved century in a stand of 74, but the opener was stumped when seven short of the mark.

Needing 243 for the victory, the visitors from Boxmoor never looked remotely likely to win.

There were three wickets each for James Sumpter, Saad Shaukat and Sunil Joshi.

Ian Fitzgerald also claimed a scalp, as the visitors were all out for only 85, to give WGC a 157-run victory.

The win over relegation threatened Boxmoor safeguarded WGC's position in Division Six and it was pleasing to see several of the regular 4th XI making important contributions.

WGC travel to Southgate Compton on Saturday.
